Updated Crestron Prodigy Systems

Crestron ProdigyCrestron just improved their lower cost Prodigy Systems with the addition of the PMC3+.  This new controller includes more powerful processing, a built-in EX wireless gateway for adding their latest lighting and temperature controls, additional memory for more IPAD or IPHONE/IPOD Touch devices, and an optional Video output to view system controls from a TV.

The PTX3 touchscreen remote that works directly with the PMC2+ and PMC3+ has convenient hard-buttons and a bright responsive touchscreen area.  The new charging cradle for the PTX3 is lower profile and has a magnetic assist so that the remote is easily docked for charging.  Wireless range is great out of the box, but expands as the Prodigy Infinet EX wireless devices are added to the system.

The PMC3+ is appropriately priced for a small home or office system, and also has the ability to be added to a larger “2-Series” system for an inexpensive guest bedroom or office control option.  Price is $1800 for the controller and touchscreen remote.

Control Your Home with Your IPhone!

crestron1

Crestron and other control system manufacturers now have apps that give you the ability to control your home with your IPhone.

Some apps are free in their limited version (allowing a certain amount of control pages), and others cost from $99 to over $300 not including the customized programming and setup.

Crestron’s version is the most customizable, and gives you full control over any of the connected home systems already working with your Crestron system.   With a little custom work, the control pages can be adjusted to represent exactly what you need to see when you are away from home.

It is very convenient to be able to view the status of your home security, adjust temperatures, or turn off the lights from anywhere you have access to the internet or 3G network.  Most of all you WILL be able to show your friends that you have the best APP!

AppleTV – Great for Music, Movies, and Photos!

AppleTVIf you’ve never seen an AppleTV (or if you haven’t even heard of it), the AppleTV is a great little device that works with your Multimedia.  Not only can you sync your Itunes music collection with it, but you can browse through your photo collection, show off the family videos, and connect to a whole array of features online.

Using the on-screen navigation it is easy to get to your multimedia by artist, album, genre, song, or playlist.  Connecting the AppleTV to the internet will give you access to YouTube, previewing and buying new music, and watching TV shows and HD Movies (preview, rent, or buy if they are not free to watch).

Also the AppleTV can now be controlled from any touchpanel in the home, so you don’t have to be in front of the on-screen navigation.

AppleTV BrowsingUsing a custom module built for the AppleTV, we can program inwall or wireless touchpanels to visualize the browsing and playback of the music.  When you are somewhere at the other end of the house, and not able to be in front of the TV screen, you can browse through your playlists, artists, songs, and control your music using a touchpanel.  You can even select a song, then select the point in the song or audio file you want to hear.  Great for podcasts.

Easy Lighting Control

Automated LightingTired of running around to shut off the lights before you go to bed?

There are many reasons to look into lighting control, but mostly for the sheer convenience.  The ability to turn on an entire pathway of lights from one button as you walk in through the garage door late at night, and then turn them all off when you get to your bedroom.  The ability to press “goodnight” and have the hall lights turn on while all of the other lights and TVs turn off.  Then, by the time you get to your room, your lullabye music is playing softly on a sleep timer and the hallway lights turn themselves off after a few minutes.

crestron_cameo_keypadsNo matter how many switches, dimmers, or fans you have in your home – you can make them adjustable wirelessly, respond to a scene command (like party, nightime, panic, all on, all off), or control them remotely with your computer or phone.

Next time you leave the house or go to bed – see how much time or hassle you’d save by having an All-Off button!
